The conductor cross-section (e.g., 95 mm²) is standardized and almost always printed on the cable jacket or listed in datasheets. However, cables with the exact same conductor can have vastly different Insulation Outer Diameters depending on their voltage class and the manufacturer's design.
While some catalogs provide the nominal Insulation O.D., manufacturing tolerances mean the real diameter can differ. That is why verifying the exact dimension using an appropriate tool, such as a caliper, is highly recommended before specifying your medium voltage accessory.
The accessory body (adapter or cold shrink) stretches over the insulation. A precise interference fit is critical to eliminate air gaps and control the electric field.
Requires exact Insulation O.D. (mm)
The internal connector (compression or shear-bolt) must perfectly match the core to safely carry the electrical current without overheating.
Requires exact Conductor Size (mm²)
